Farewell to Patrick McInerney

Farewell to Patrick McInerney

 (ENB/IISD)

With great sadness we say goodbye to Patrick McInerney, our Pat!

1964 - 2024

Patrick’s sudden passing is a profound loss for the Montreal Protocol community. He was the quintessential negotiator.  Trusted by all countries, Patrick played a pivotal role in shaping the Montreal Protocol treaty, particularly in the adoption of the Kigali Amendment.  During negotiations, Pat had the ability to bridge divides and foster consensus among countries, respectful of the institutions and the challenges faced by Parties and driving forward the agenda. As Chair of the Executive Committee in 2011, Patrick's leadership was instrumental in getting agreement on funding guidelines to phase out HCFCs, paving the way for projects to be approved.

Beyond his professional achievements, Patrick was a beloved member of our Montreal Protocol family. His humility, approachability, and passion for his work endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He embodied the qualities that have made the Montreal Protocol a successful treaty.

The entire Multilateral Fund Secretariat mourns the loss of Patrick, and his memory will always be with us. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Patrick, you will be dearly missed, but your legacy of commitment and dedication to the Montreal Protocol will continue to inspire us all. Rest in peace, our dear friend.
